Diesel & Delete Kit Questions

What is the DPF/DEF and why should I delete it?

The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) traps soot and particulates in your exhaust. Over time, the filter clogs and forces your truck into “regen mode,” burning extra fuel and reducing power. Eventually, it can cause major engine issues.

A DPF delete pipe removes this restriction, restoring horsepower, turbo spool, and fuel efficiency. Pairing the pipe with a delete tuner ensures your truck’s computer runs properly without the DPF.

What are the risks of removing my emissions equipment?

In the United States, deleting your DPF, EGR, or DEF is not legal for street use and is intended for closed-course, off-road, or race applications only. Fines may apply if driven on public roads.

If you’re outside of these regions, you may not have restrictions — check local laws before making modifications.

Always ensure hardware deletes are paired with a tuner. Running your truck with parts removed but no tuning will result in limp mode or engine damage.

What is the EGR and why should I delete it?

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system routes exhaust gases back into your intake. While designed to reduce emissions, it often clogs your intake with soot, increases engine temps, and reduces efficiency.

An EGR delete removes this problem, improving throttle response, fuel economy, and long-term reliability. Like the DPF delete, it requires a tuner to recalibrate your ECU.

I drive a [Year/Make/Model], what delete options do I have?

Use our Year/Make/Model dropdown menu in the header or product page. You’ll see all compatible tuners, DPF delete pipes, and EGR kits for your truck.

Each option includes a product description to help you decide. Some tuners cost more due to brand, features, or ease of use, but all are fully delete-compatible.

Tuning & Installation Questions

Do I need a tuner for my delete kit?

Yes — a tuner is required for any DPF, EGR, or DEF delete. Once you remove or bypass emissions components, your truck’s factory computer no longer recognizes key systems and will trigger error codes or go into limp mode.

A delete tuner (also called a “delete tune”) recalibrates your ECM so it runs properly without those emissions controls. It adjusts fuel mapping, timing, and sensors for optimal performance and reliability.

Without a tuner, your truck will not operate correctly after a delete.

Can I install delete parts and Holley upgrades myself?

Many enthusiasts do, but it depends on your experience level and the parts you’re installing:

  • DPF/EGR delete kits usually require basic mechanical tools and some exhaust or intake disassembly.
  • Tuners/programmers are plug-and-play but must be configured carefully with your VIN and calibration.
  • Holley upgrades (intakes, throttle bodies, EFI systems) are often bolt-on and come with detailed instructions.

If you’re confident with mechanical work, you can complete most installs at home. However, professional installation is recommended for complex builds, custom tuning, or wiring-intensive setups.

What is the difference between a tuner and a programmer?

These terms are often used interchangeably, but here’s the difference:

  • A tuner generally refers to the software or device used to modify your truck’s engine calibration.
  • A programmer is the hardware that connects to your OBD-II port to flash that new tune into the vehicle.

Most modern devices — like the Mini Maxx V2 or EFI Live AutoCal — act as both a tuner and programmer, allowing you to load custom delete tunes and make real-time adjustments such as tire size, speed limiter, or shift points.

What happens if I don’t install a delete tune?

Running your truck with deleted components and no tune can cause serious issues. The factory ECM will detect missing emissions sensors and trigger limp mode, check-engine lights, or derate power.

In some cases, the engine may run too rich or lean, damaging injectors, turbo, or exhaust sensors. A proper delete tune disables those emissions checks, optimizes fuel and air delivery, and keeps the engine running safely and efficiently.

Never remove emissions equipment without tuning the ECM to match the hardware changes.

Holley Performance Parts Questions

Why choose Holley intakes and throttle bodies?

Holley has been a leader in performance for decades. Their intake manifolds, throttle bodies, and EFI systems are designed for maximum airflow and fuel delivery — meaning more horsepower and torque across the RPM range.

Compared to stock, Holley parts are tuned for performance, whether you’re building a street machine, drag car, or off-road setup.

Will Holley parts fit my vehicle?

Most Holley performance parts are application-specific. Always check the product description for compatibility with your engine family, year, and model. If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll help match the right Holley intake, fuel system, or accessory to your build.

Do Holley parts improve horsepower?

Yes — Holley intakes, throttle bodies, carburetors, and EFI systems are designed to increase airflow and optimize fuel delivery. Gains vary by application, but most customers see improvements in horsepower, throttle response, and drivability.

Are Holley parts emissions legal?

Some Holley parts carry CARB E.O. numbers and are legal for street use in California and other states following CARB rules. Others are designed for race/off-road applications only.

Always check the product details for emissions status before ordering.
